"Broadlawns Medical Center is Polk County’s community hospital. Our purpose is simple: Together a healthy community. We provide high-quality, affordable care, including care for individuals and families who face barriers to accessing healthcare.

In addition to primary and specialty care, Broadlawns offers comprehensive behavioral health services, emergency care, and preventive health programs that support the health and well-being of our community.

For many people across Central Iowa, Broadlawns is more than a hospital. It is a trusted place to turn for care, support, and guidance.

Why Broadlawns Partners with Team Blue Iowa

Early detection plays an important role in improving outcomes for prostate cancer. At Broadlawns, we care for patients who may not receive regular preventive screenings or who may otherwise have limited access to them.

Team Blue Iowa has been a strong advocate for prostate cancer awareness and education in our community. Their work brings attention to the importance of screening and encourages people to take an active role in their health.

Our shared commitment to prevention and education is at the heart of this partnership.

About Our Partnership

Broadlawns has partnered with Team Blue Iowa for several years through community outreach and screening events.

Together, we help connect individuals with prostate cancer screening and information about early detection, helping more people access preventive care.

Support from Team Blue Iowa has also helped enhance resources used in our urology department, including equipment used in patient exams and screenings.

Additional Message

Prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting men. Screening and awareness play an important role in detecting cancer earlier, when treatment is often more effective.

Broadlawns is grateful for organizations like Team Blue Iowa that are committed to raising awareness and supporting patients. Partnerships like this help ensure people in our community have access to the information, screenings, and care they need."

Providing Prostate Cancer Support
& Awareness

Our events and programs are intentionally driven to provide support and awareness to Iowa men and their families who are affected by prostate cancer.

Through advocacy, awareness, and community engagement, we’re working to ensure that no man - and no family - face this journey alone.

Team Blue Iowa is made up of survivors, supporters, and local Iowans who donate their time, talent, and treasures to ensure that every dollar we raise goes directly back to our community, helping to promote awareness and early detection. â€‹To date, we have given away more than $315,000.

Team Blue Iowa Annual Events

Backpack Program

Team Blue Iowa, in partnership with The Urology Center of Iowa, have raised funds to give newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients comfort backpacks filled with items that have been suggested by former patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The backpacks contain items to occupy their mind and help them throughout treatment, whether that is surgery or radiation (books, blankets, puzzles, etc.) and other comfort items. They also contain critical information about their treatment regimen and ways to help in their recovery (information about treatment, physical therapy, incontinence garments, etc.)
If you are currently receiving prostate cancer treatments or know someone who is,
we'd love to connect with you and get a comfort backpack in your hands.
